Stage 2: Application

Before applying to study abroad: 

  • Review the general study abroad and program specific eligibility requirements
  • Complete STEPS 1-5 of the Advising Application. The completion of the Advising Application is required in order to apply for an MU Traditional and MU Professional study abroad program. 
  • Global Education STRONGLY encourages you to research the program thoroughly and discuss your plans with:
    • Global Education and/or lead professor or staff member for an MU Guided program. 
    • Your academic advisor(s)
    • Financial Aid Office
    • Any family members or other parties involved in the decision making process

General Application Timelines:

For Study Abroad During: Applications are Available: Applications are Due:
Winter July 1 Mid-September
Spring July 1 Mid-September
Summer January 1 Late-February
Fall January 1 Late-February
Academic Year January 1 Late-February

The application cycle will be announced on the website and social media when applications are opened for each cycle. 
MU Guided program deadlines are specific to each program. See their specific webpages for details. 

How To Apply:

  • Step 1: Accessing Your Global Education Portal.
    • Click the "Student LOGIN" button. 
    • Log in (Use your MU username and password)
  • Step 2: Applying for a program. 
    • Click the "Study Abroad Programs" tab to access the program list.
    • Search for the program that you wish to apply to and click on the name of the program
    • Click the Apply Now” button on the program's page. If the Apply Now button is not showing, it means the application cycle is not yet available.
    • Click on the application term and click Apply. 
    • Refer to Step 3 for instructions on how to complete your application checklist.
  • Step 3: Completing Your Study Abroad Application
    • There are multiple sections of your application, listing items that need to be completed along with detailed instructions.
    • After you have completed an item, a check mark will appear under the Received column.
    • For items directly submitted manually or electronically to Global Education, GE staff will mark as received.
  • Returning to Your Portal and Saving Your Application:
    • In order to access your application, log into your Global Education Portal.
    • Once you log back in, in the top-left navigation bar click "Applicant Home"
    • On your "Applicant Home" page you may access your advising application, OR your study abroad application.
    • It is very important to edit/update your profile to make sure that your contact information is current.
    • You may begin a questionnaire and save it for later completion.
    • After 59 minutes of inactivity you will be logged out and any unsaved work will be lost. Save often. 
    • If you have multiple tabs open, it may 'time out' and you will lose your work. 
  • For Non-Millersville University Students: (Only if you have not completed an Advising Application.) 
    • Click the "Study Abroad Programs" tab to access the program list.
    • Search for the program that you wish to apply to and click on the name of the program
    • Click the Apply Now” button on the program's page.
    • Click "I am not a Millersville University student"
    • Enter your user information and click "Create Account"
    • A username and temporary password will be emailed to you. 
    • Refer to Steps 3 as listed above.
